Archaeology at New Coghurst

Join the dig team
At New Coghurst we are currently excavating a Bronze Age settlement discovered here in 2023. We are currently welcoming anyone who would like to come and assist us with the excavation, for a unique and exciting way to engage with the ancient history of the British Isles.
Digs take place during the first week of every month, during dig season (March-October). No archaeological experience is needed as supervision and tuition is provided. Book a weekly dig pass to attend as many days during dig week as you like, or book as you go.
Kid's Digs
Kids can get involved too! We host hands-on archaeology classes for kids. Taking ancient history out of the textbooks and classrooms, joining a real archaeological dig offers kids the chance to engage with the past in a tactile and inspiring way.
Kids will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Ancestral Skills
Alongside dig weeks we host a series of ancestral crafts and skills workshops, led by specialist craftspeople and workshop leaders. Combine a dig day with a workshop to delve even deeper into our prehistoric past. Try your hand at flint-knapping or rush basket weaving, metalwork or cordage making. Scroll down or click the button below to find out more about upcoming workshops and to book your spot.
