Foraging & Ecology

Learn more about the edible landscape on a seasonal foraging workshop or join us for a conservation day and help us to monitor and protect local wildlife!

Foraging Workshops

We offer seasonal foraging days which are combined with talks about the historical findings on the Bronze Age Settlement and how we are rewilding the farm to improve biodiversity.

As we wander around the land with the knowledge that our ancestors once lived and tended the land here, we explore the treasures the hedgerows and meadows have to offer both culinary, medicinally and in some cases for other uses too.

Understanding the ecology and landscape we are foraging in is so important as it helps to inform why certain plants grow where they do, what other species are foraging for particular plants as well and how to forage in a responsible way that respects biodiversity.

This blended day is packed full of information and experiences to please the senses!

BeeWalk at New Coghurst

BeeWalk is a national recording scheme run by the Bumblebee Conservation trust which monitors the abundance of bumblebees across Britain. The scheme relies on volunteers to identify and count the bumblebees they spot on a fixed walking route of around 1 to 2km. Each BeeWalk route should be walked regularly during the summer months.

Over the summer we run a community bee walk once a month where we invite volunteers to come and help us spot and survey as many bees as possible. There is a small donation fee per person for the walk. Funds are donated to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. The data we collect will help the Bumblebee Conservation Trust to assess the health of the UK's bee population. We have lots of fun in nature while we walk, making it a great day out for families.
