Archaeology School for Kids 9th April

Archaeology School is a 2 hour deep dive into archaeological practical skills and techniques excavating on the Bronze Age Settlement discovered on our Farm.
 
So far we have found a burial mound, round houses and furnaces. The children will have the opportunity to excavate at the round house sites whilst also visit the burial mound whilst it is being excavated by adult archaeologists and volunteers. 
 
Cam, archaeologist, will show the children what we have been up to, explore the history of it all through story and facts and the showing of the artefacts found so far.  He will then teach the children a variety of real archeology techniques including the following:
 
Excavation Techniques – Reading the soil, use of trowel, how to read and understand features
Archaeological Recording, including how to fill out context sheets and understand numbering systems
Post excavation – cleaning, identification, categorising artefacts
Artefact identification
 
These sessions can be booked onto as standalone sessions. For those keen to learn as much about archaeology as possible we encourage you to book onto all of them!
 
We can support anyone who needs help with reading/writing or numbers when filling out context sheets so please don't think this is a potential barrier for attending!
 
Certificate given at the end of each session stating the hours of archaeological experience they have done.
 
Age 8yrs and above
 
Children can be dropped off or parents can stay, we'll create a seating area next to the dig.
If being dropped off please email us to advise us of this as we will need to ask you to fill in a form with contact details etc.
